Message from the Chair

It's very encouraging to see the campaigns and media coverage about breaking down the stigmas surrounding mental health. The focus of World Health Day was depression and the campaign focused on getting people to talk about their problems. Prince Harry's moving testimony about having counselling following the loss of his mother will hopefully encourage others to seek professional help.

Behind the scenes we've been out and about meeting members in Glasgow and liaising with political parties about the general election. We're delighted to have secured an early meeting with Scotland's Mental Health Minister, Maureen Watt MSP, to talk about Scotland's new mental health strategy. At the meeting we'll be emphasising the critical role that talking therapies will need to play if the strategy is to secure the changes Scotland deserves. We're particularly keen to ensure that the strategy's commitment to increasing the mental health workforce will include vital investment into the provision of evidence-based psychological therapies.
