Accredited Course Directory

Why choose a BACP accredited course?

BACP is recognised as the leading accreditation body for training courses in counselling and psychotherapy. We build strong collaborative relationships with our accredited course providers, working together to share knowledge and develop the highest standards of professional practice.

By choosing a BACP accredited course, you can be sure that:

  • the course content, delivery and assessment meet the highest professional standards
  • the course is mapped to external benchmark standards and curricula (for example QAA standardsBACP core curricula)
  • the tutor team meets BACP teaching, experience and practice requirements
  • the learning environment and resources are appropriate for high-quality practitioner training
  • the course assessment and moderation are externally assured
  • the course and practice requirements satisfy BACP membership and individual accreditation training requirements
  • the course is subject to ongoing BACP quality assurance

Successful graduates of BACP accredited courses can apply to join the BACP Register directly without having to sit our Certificate of Proficiency.

If you are thinking about training to be a therapist, visit our Student Pages  BACP Student Pages  You can also contact us for more information

Using the directory

You can use this page to check if a course is accredited or if it was ever accredited by BACP in the past. Current courses show the start date for the accreditation (in brackets.). For courses with previous accredited status, please go to the end of the list. These courses show both the start date and end date for the accredited  status (in brackets).

This list is useful to

  • prospective students wanting to take a BACP accredited training course

  • applicants for BACP Membership, Register and Accreditation (to check if their training is/was BACP accredited)

  • employers, clients and other people wanting to check the BACP status of a qualification

Current courses show the duration of the training and the type of delivery like this: '2FT' and this '4PT'. The figure is the overall duration in years and the abbreviation indicates full or part time delivery. Please note that the course duration given is for the accredited training only. Some accredited courses may require you to have completed some previous training and/or have experience of working in a counselling setting before you can apply to enrol upon that course. For example, it may be necessary to complete a certificate level training in counselling with the course provider before you can progress onto the accredited diploma level training (please enquire with the training provider direct).

Students who leave a BACP accredited course before the end of that accredited course or programme will not be able to claim completion of a BACP accredited course (e.g. a student exiting an accredited BA (Hons) at an interim diploma exit point cannot claim a BACP accredited course).

Students who join a course part-way through due to training and /or experience already gained - e.g. joining after the first year at the start of the second year - may only claim a BACP accredited course upon graduation if their admission route has been approved by BACP.

Trainees on a BACP accredited course are eligible to join BACP as a Student Member. Graduates of a BACP accredited course are eligible to join BACP as a Registered Member MBACP. Graduates may either transfer their Student Membership to the Individual Member (IM) category or apply to join BACP as an IM if they are not already in membership. In both cases, BACP will need to approve the accredited course certificate as supporting evidence. Once in the IM category, graduates will be invited to sign the terms and conditions for joining the BACP Register. When they have signed, they will become a Registered Member MBACP.
