Accredited Course Search

If you are thinking about training to be a therapist, make sure you visit BACP Student Pages .  You can also call Customer Services on 01455 883300 or email CRS

All courses with current BACP accredited status are listed below.

We provide information on:

  • Who provides the course
  • Where the course is delivered
  • Course weblink and contact details
  • When the course was first accredited (start date appears in brackets after the course title)
  • The length of the course and style of delivery e.g. 2 years part-time
  • The course's orientation or model*
  • The validating or awarding body for the course†

Delivery mode is listed like this: 3PT. The number indicates duration of the course in years and the delivery may be indicated as FT for full-time or PT for part-time.

All previously accredited courses are also listed  At the end of the current accredited courses list, there is an 'X-Accredited Courses' section which lists all courses that have been accredited by BACP in the past. It also shows accredited courses that are due to close, not taking on new students or have since evolved into a different accredited course. If you graduated from a course whilst its accreditation was current, your status as an accredited course graduate is not affected no matter what the current status of the course is now. The dates for the accredited status appear in brackets after each course.NB some accredited courses delivered by national providers e.g. Relate are venue-specific, as shown. If your course provider has since re-named because of a re-branding, takeover or merger, you might not be able to find it easily - check for re-named colleges, universities and institutes here:

Is it really BACP accredited? We receive enquiries about courses that have advertised as accredited but are not on the list below, or about courses that claim to be 'applying for accreditation', 'eligible for accreditation', 'teaching to BACP standards', 'approved' or 'recognised' by BACP. It's simple...if it doesn't show up here, it is not/has not been accredited by BACP even if you have been told by someone otherwise! Courses that are preparing/applying for accreditation are unable to guarantee the outcome of the assessment process. Organisational membership alone does not mean that the course is accredited by BACP or approved by us in any way. This is why the guidance for course accreditation states that...

Only accredited courses that have completed the accreditation process and received confirmation of their accredited status may include the words "BACP Accredited Course" in their publicity material or use the 'Course Accredited by BACP' logo. Other courses should not include in any publicity material their intention to apply or even that they have applied for accreditation. This can mislead potential and existing students and may lead to disappointment upon graduation or application for BACP membership/individual accreditation.

* There are different types or methods of counselling/psychotherapy

† Courses at higher education sector universities are self-validated

An up-to-date list of courses currently accredited by BACP is below, followed by a record of all courses that have been accredited by us in the past.
