Course Accreditation Scheme

15021_gbcover16.jpg

BACP is recognised as the leading accreditation body for training courses in counselling and psychotherapy.

We build strong collaborative relationships with our accredited course providers, working together to network, share knowledge and develop the highest standards of professional practice.

BACP accreditation ensures applicants that the course they are considering meets stringent training, practice and quality assurance criteria. Successful graduates can apply to go directly onto the BACP Register without having to sit our Certificate of Proficiency.

Requirements

BACP's course accreditation scheme offers accreditation to counsello and psychotherapist practitioner training courses of at least 400 face-to-face taught hours, which require an integral supervised placement of 100 client hours minimum.

The scheme is for established courses which have experience of teaching and learning at all stages of the course, as indicated by some criteria and the visit stage requirements. For example the assessment team will want to meet final year students, examine work examples from all parts of the course and understand how placements work in practice. Please note that your course must have been through the whole teaching and evaluation process from recruitment and admissions to course-end and graduation before you can complete and submit your application to BACP.

Course Accreditation and Professional Standards

The day-to-day running of the course accreditation scheme sits within the Professional Standards department at BACP. We coordinate the application and assessment procedures for first-time applications and renewals, as well as supporting accredited courses to maintain their accreditation as they develop, change and expand. We can also help you with your enquiries about gaining course accreditation with BACP. In addition, we help with queries about the accredited status of qualifications past and present. You can email us or call 01455 883302. BACP has an assessment team of Accreditation Assessors who work on all accreditation schemes, which is managed by the Accreditation Standards Manager.
