Welcome to the NHS commissioning webpages
These pages are designed to provide BACP members (and the services in which they practice) with essential information to help counselling and psychotherapy provision continue as a valued service for NHS patients, both within NHS services and in services the NHS commissions, for example from the Third Sector.
The section for practitioners provides contextual information to improve your understanding of the evolving NHS context, it also includes free downloads and information for patients.
The provider section is there to help service providers prepare for commissioning - both services that have current NHS contracts and those planning to tender in the future. This includes a suite of seven template documents to help you develop service polices suitable for NHS provision, on themes such as: clinical governance, information governance and safeguarding.
New to the site - October update
Guidance 02: preparing your service for commissioning (BACP, 2014) has now been published online. It provides a simple, comprehensive and accessible guide for service providers who are tendering for new NHS contracts and also offers guidance for those who already have contracts they wish to maintain. Contents include an overview of national policy and how it impacts at the local level, an explanation of commissioning processes, business planning, and securing contracts long-term.
‘This comprehensive resource will help us, as therapists and service providers, to understand and engage with the changing policy and commissioning context, and inform and support the business planning required to improve quality and influence local commissioning decisions.’
Foreword, Zubeida Ali, Past Chair of BACP Healthcare and Clinical Lead for Counselling with Lancashire Care Foundation Trust
