The work of the Information Office

There is a wide variety of Information available both for members of the public and for BACP members.

An average of five thousand written and telephone enquiries are received by the Information Services Team each month. The nature and variety of these enquiries enables us to identify areas in which written information is needed, and based on this data the  Further Sources of Help  section and Information Sheets are developed. These information sheets are available to download free of charge to members . Non-members can purchase them from BACP shop online  or via Customer Services.

Increasingly, members are approaching the Ethics Team with practice issues or ethical dilemmas and the team have become experienced at helping members examine these issues in the light of the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy , offering perspectives and information on the issues raised. The Ethics Team receive regular supervision from an experienced counsellor regarding ethical issues and have built up considerable expertise in the area. However, there are situations, which require greater practice insight and the enquiry can be referred to one of the Experienced Practitioner Network. The members of the Network are all practitioners with a wealth of experience and there is a wide variety of specialised knowledge within this Network.

If you have an ethical situation, the Ethics Team is happy to discuss it with you, so please do not hesitate to contact us on our Ethics Enquiry Line number: 01455 883300

The two major in-house directories are produced by the Information Department. The Seeking a Therapist Directory, accessed online  offers comprehensive details of organisations and individuals offering counselling and psychotherapy services throughout the UK.

The Training in Counselling and Psychotherapy Directory available on-line only, offers details of courses at a wide variety of centres in the UK. In addition there is an invaluable section written to assist students to find a suitable course for their needs.
