Improving Accessibility

As part of BACP's commitment in improving the service we provide to our members we are delighted to announce that Cultural Deaf British Sign Language (BSL) Users can now access the Ethical Framework online as the result of a joint venture between BACP and the British Society for Mental Health and Deafness (BSMHD).

As the professional body for counselling and psychotherapy with a membership of over 33,000* people we recognise that accessibility cannot be understated and that if we are to improve access then there is a need to be proactive in developing the services we offer.

We have therefore been working in partnership with third sector organisations to ensure that our members are able to easily access our services. As a result we are now the only professional body to provide linguistic access for our deaf members and users of therapy services.

In addition, for the visually impaired, Therapy Today can be accessed by logging onto http://www.therapytoday.net/ and looking at the section entitled ‘Files for the Visually Impaired'. By clicking onto this Therapy Today is brought up in an unedited Word version that can be utilised by a screen reader software programme such as Jaws.

There are over 250* visually impaired members of BACP and having this access will mean that they will be able to make full use of their membership by being aware of the work that is being undertaken and participate by being informed of developments.

*BACP membership figures as at April 2011.
