What further training is necessary to work with a client’s trauma safely and effectively, post level 4 training?
I am a BACP student member and trainee counsellor with Heartwood Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
My Research Project's statement of purpose is: 'What further training is necessary to work with a client’s trauma safely and effectively, post level 4 training?'
I am trying to find out how counsellors and psychotherapists who are currently in practice are experiencing trauma in the therapy room, and what training and CPD they have received or sought out in order to effectively deal with client trauma. It seems clear to me that trauma is a growing area of concern for our profession, with many well known counsellors and psychotherapists releasing books on its ubiquitous and endemic nature, yet in my training we have only received 1 day of trauma teaching.
I felt it necessary to find out what qualified professionals are experiencing in the therapy room and what further training they have sought to equip themselves to full competency in this area.
