I would like to invite you to consider participating in a study I am conducting as part of my Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at the University of South Wales, entitled:

Counselling Psychologists’ experiences of working with clients presenting with somatic symptoms: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis

Participation is entirely voluntary, and you would need to be working as a qualified or trainee counselling psychologist in the UK.

The study will aim to:

• Explore Counselling Psychologist’s clinical decision-making experiences of working with clients who present for, or are referred for therapeutic intervention as a result of difficulties with their experiencing of somatic symptoms, which are perceived (by others) to have a psychological cause e.g. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Participation in this study will involve a recorded, one-to-one semi-structured interview via Microsoft Teams, with myself, a qualified and BACP registered psychotherapist/ BPS registered trainee counselling psychologist, on Microsoft Teams.

This is a research interview and not a therapeutic encounter/ therapy session.

Interviews will have a duration of approximately one hour, with an allowance of some additional time to check over consent forms and debrief.

If you are interested to find out more and might be willing to share your experiences, please do drop me an email: 14072319@students.southwales.ac.uk

Thank you in advance for taking the time to consider participating.
