There is a wide variety of Information available both for members of the public and for BACP members. An average of five thousand written and telephone enquiries are received by the Information Service each month. The nature and variety of these enquiries enables us to identify areas in which written information is needed, and based on this data Specialist Organisations and Information Sheets are developed. We are preparing a new Information Database in which we will have access to details of organisations which offer support and/or training in a whole range of fields relevant to counselling together with relevant references from a variety of journals. Increasingly, members are approaching the Information Service with practice issues or ethical dilemmas and the Information Team have become experienced at helping members examine these issues in the light of the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy, perhaps offering a different perspective on the issue. The Information Team receive regular supervision from an experienced counsellor regarding ethical issues and have built up considerable expertise in the area. However, there are problems, which require greater practice insight or become too complex for the Office team and at this point the enquirer can be referred to one of the Experienced Practitioner Network. The members of the Network are all counsellors with a wealth of experience and there is a wide variety of specialised knowledge held within the Network. If you have such difficulties, the Information Team is happy to discuss these with you in the first instance, so please do not hesitate to contact us. The two major in-house directories are produced by the Information Department. The Counselling and Psychotherapy Resources Directory offers comprehensive details of organisation and individuals offering counselling and psychotherapy services throughout the UK. This directory can be accessed online. The Training in Counselling and Psychotherapy Directory offers details of courses at a wide variety of centres in the UK. There is also an invaluable section written to assist students to find a suitable course for their needs. |
