Benefits of Membership

Below are some of the benefits that are available to current members of BACP

Therapy Today

Therapy Today is a professional magazine published by BACP for current members on a monthly basis (except in January and August). It is a useful way of keeping up to date with news and developments within counselling and psychotherapy. You can also search and view the Therapy Today Archives

Counselling and Psychotherapy Research (CPR) Journal

CPR Journal is a quarterly journal linking research with practice. Current BACP members will receive this journal which has articles on recent research in counselling and psychotherapy.

Information Sheets

Current members of BACP are able to access almost 50 information sheets free of charge. The information sheets can act as a useful guideline covering topics such as setting up in private practice, confidentiality, record keeping and online counselling.

BACP Events

Discounted places at BACP events  BACP runs a range of events including annual conference, divisional conferences and regional consultations, which give our members the chance to directly ask the questions that are important to them.

BACP Publications

Discounts on BACP publications BACP produces books on a range of topics ranging from counselling children and young people to online counselling and current BACP members will get discounted rates on any they wish to purchase.

Student Placement Database

Current Student BACP members have access to the Student Placement Database should they be looking for a placement in their area.

BACP Divisons

BACP heads 7 specialist divisions open to members to join.

The divisions are expert occupational groups. They run their own meetings and formulate strategies in line with BACP objectives and are generally overseen by the BACP Board of Governors who monitor their activities. Each division produces a quarterly journal free to their members or available by subscription to BACP members and the general public. Divisional Membership also gives a discount should there be an event taking place for a division that the member subscribes to.

Find a Therapist

Discounted entry on the Find a Therapist section of our website. Your details including any qualifications and specialism(s) you wish to list will appear in our directory - a valuable advertising tool which allows potential clients to find the right therapist for them and will be able to view your details so they can contact you if required.

Ethical Framework

Ethical Framework  BACP members sign up to and adhere to the Ethical Framework and Professional Conduct Procedure, this is an assurance that our members are practicing in an ethical and professional way and have a set of guidelines to follow. There is also Customer Service Ethics available Monday - Friday 9.30am - 4.30pm that can provide support should you need to discuss an Ethical dilemma. 

Jobs Online

BACP's exclusive recruitment facility. Whether you are job seeking or recruiting, Jobs Online is the site for you, providing access to the latest counselling and psychotherapy vacancies for anyone in search of employment within the field. As a BACP member you will be able to login and view the latest vacancies.

CPD Directory

BACP is committed to continued professional development and is aware of a growing demand for CPD.

The CPD Directory provides therapists a source of information on CPD opportunities from participating providers. You can search or browse the directory to find opportunities that meet your requirements.

There is also CPD Online although there is a fee applied,  available are a series of online learning modules for counsellors, psychotherapists and other psychological practitioners. Each module comprises a single theme and users will be able to dip in and out of the learning as they choose and save work as they go along.

BACP Register

If you become an Individual Member of BACP, you would then have 24 months to become registered. Please Click here for information about becoming registered and the benefits you would receive, which would be:

  • Having your name listed on the BACP Register for Counsellors and Psychotherapists

  • The use of the designation Registered Member MBACP

  • You will have access to a unique logo, that you can use for advertising (letterheads/websites)

  • Finally a certificate showing you are registered
