BACP welcomes the Government's strategy to reduce suicide rates and better support those who have been affected by suicide. However, BACP would like to see a stronger appreciation of the impact of counselling and psychotherapy interventions for combating depression and suicidal thoughts for those most in need. In particular, early intervention is crucial in treating adolescents with mental health problems, therefore BACP believes that all children and young people in secondary schools and universities should have access to professional, qualified counselling services within their educational establishment.
