Supervision Review

1600_supervision.jpgThe impact of clinical supervision on counsellors and therapists, their practice and their clients: a systematic review of the literature
By Professor Sue Wheeler (Institute of Lifelong Learning, University of Leicester) and Kaye Richards (BACP).
December 2007

This review systematically locates, appraises and synthesises evidence from research studies in order to obtain a reliable overview of the impact of clinical supervision. Detailed inclusion and exclusion criteria were agreed. EPPI-Reviewer software was used to organise and manage the analysis of the articles that met the inclusion criteria.

This paper reports on the findings of this review, from articles published in this area since 1980, and reviews 25 individual published stories. The quality of evidence is variable, but supervision is consistently demonstrated to have some positive impacts on the supervisee.

Member price: £12.99; non-member price: £19.99, the report can be ordered from BACP (ISBN 978 1 905114 25 2)
