In recognition of clients’ and clinicians’ need for information about what treatment works best for whom, based on research evidence, the Department of Health has funded the development of a clinical guideline for counselling and psychological therapies. For almost three years, representatives from BACP took part in both the steering and development group for this guideline and the final guideline was signed off by BACP’s Chief Executive (amongst others). Other contributing organisations include the British Psychological Society, the The Royal College of General Practitioners, The Royal College of Psychiatrists and the UK Council for Psychotherapy. This guideline is the nearest to a basis regulatory governance of provision in the NHS that will exist until a bill to register Psychotherapists and Counsellors is supported by the Government. It is recommended that all counsellors and psychotherapists read this guideline. |
