The BACP Research Network was launched in June 1997.

As a learned society, research should be at the core of BACP and yet its influence is still somewhat limited throughout the counselling and psychotherapy world. By facilitating this Network, BACP is taking a strong lead in seeking to reverse this trend. Many counsellors would like to know more about research; many would like to get involved in it. There are a great many research studies carried out which are seen by far too small an audience and yet there is a strong and consistent demand for information about research. Those engaged in research frequently wish they could contact people working on similar topics. By making this kind of contact easier, the Research Network should avoid 'reinventing the wheel' and going over ground already covered elsewhere, which is all too common among researchers, especially those new to the field.

This online directory of members lists their research interests and contact details and is searchable, either by keyword, category or name and is accessible to network members only. We currently have over 450 members with a broad spectrum of interests numbering more than 950 separate entries. If you do not have the use of the Internet at home or at work, then you can access the directory via your library.

Aims of the Research Network
The primary aim of the Research Network is to aid the development of a research culture throughout BACP and the wider counselling and psychotherapy world, coupled with providing a vehicle to help members get in touch and share information whilst promoting the value of research.

Membership
Membership of the BACP Research Network is free to all individual and organisational members of BACP. Access to the Network will be declined if you are not a member. You do not have to be actively involved in research yourself, but you do need a keen interest. Current members range from counselling students and practitioners with relatively little experience, to highly experienced Researchers.

The Directory
The Research Directory is based on 11 categories of interest (listed below) and members can choose to have up to three entries. You may choose your own keywords to correspond with each entry and there is no limit on the number of keywords you use, making searching easier.
