What does Accreditation / Registration mean?  

Therapists listed in bold blue are registered or accredited with the organisations listed in the ’Registration/accreditation’ column. Here is a list of these organisations with further information:

BACP – British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy

’BACP’ indicates that the therapist is an accredited counsellor or psychotherapist, trainer or supervisor. These individuals have achieved a substantial level of training and experience that has been approved by BACP. The majority of therapists listed in the directory are BACP accredited. UKRC – United Kingdom Register of Counsellors

’UKRC’ indicates that the therapist is a UKRC Independent Registered Counsellor. To become an independent registered counsellor, the individual has achieved accreditation through a recognised UKRC accrediting organisation such as BACP, COSCA (Confederation of Scottish Counselling Agencies) or UKAHPP (United Kingdom Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners). The UKRC is an unbiased national register of counsellors. More information about UKRC can be found on this website here

BPC – British Psychoanalytic Council (formerly BCP)

’BPC’ indicates that the therapist is a member of the British Psychoanalytic Council. For more information about BPC and a definitive list of accrediting bodies, go to www.psychoanalytic-council.org

BPS – British Psychological Society

’BPS C Cllg Psychol’ indicates that the therapist has achieved the status of Chartered Counselling Psychologist with BPS. ’BPS CPsychol’ indicates that the therapist has achieved the status of Chartered Psychologist with BPS. For more information about BPS go to www.bps.org.uk

UKCP – United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy

’UKCP’ indicates that the therapist is a member of the UKCP National Register of Psychotherapists. The acronym in brackets afterwards indicates the accrediting body within UKCP that the individual qualifies through. UKAHPP – United Kingdom Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners

’UKAHPP’ indicates that the therapist is an Accredited Counsellor with UKAHPP. For more information about UKAHPP go to www.ahpp.org

FDAP – Federation of Drug and Alcohol Practitioners
