The Good Practice Steering Group (GPSG) supports the implementation of BACP’s Ethical Framework within member practice and helps to develop evidence-informed resources in the interests of clients, members and other stakeholders. The group works in collaboration with BACP staff, who publish and review the Ethical Framework and manage the commissioning and editing of the resources. We are looking to recruit a student member who will help the GPSG to reflect the diversity and experience within the BACP membership. You will need to be a current student on a level 4 course or above. You will also need to be a student member of BACP and be passionate about ethics.
Term of office
Group members are appointed for three years. This may be extended for a further three years if agreeable.
Time commitment
You will attend up to four group meetings a year. These are held remotely via Teams.
You will be likely to have background experience, including taking part in working groups or reading and reviewing ethics publications.
General responsibilities
The duties of a GPSG member are to:
- work collaboratively with BACP’s Professional Standards department
- safeguard the good name and values of BACP, ensuring the Ethical Framework and Ethics in Practice resources produced are to agreed quality assurance standards
- encourage members to embed ethics within practice
- network
- give your viewpoint on prioritisation and production of Ethics in Practice resources
- represent BACP and our members to wider stakeholder groups, including training and placement providers.
Carrying out the role
As a GPSG member you'll be expected to:
- attend group meetings fully prepared, having read all the papers and documents sent out (where possible, meeting dates are agreed in advance to support attendance)
- act as an ambassador for BACP within the membership
- adhere to our policies, procedures and code of conduct relating to volunteers
- maintain absolute confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information
- always act in the best interests of BACP
- observe the seven Nolan principles: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, leadership.
Skills and abilities
You will:
- be willing to devote time and effort to the role
- have a range of experience as a student therapist
- have good, independent judgement
- be able to think creatively
- understand the responsibilities of the position
- be IT literate - able and willing to use technology on BACP business (papers are distributed by email)
- have a passion for ethics.
Experience of writing or publishing is desirable but not essential.
Remuneration
There is no remuneration for this role, however we will reimburse reasonable expenses incurred in carrying out the role in line with our volunteers expenses policy.
