A brand new resource developed for the CPD hub designed to support counsellors in private practice as they navigate maternity, with a special focus on cultural considerations, financial planning, and professional responsibilities.

Charlotte Braithwaite and Aisha Ionie Gordon-Hiles, with host Linda-Jayne Elliot, explore three topics: Preparing for maternity leave, Practical elements of being pregnant in private practice, and Returning to work after maternity leave.

The resource provides practical guidance, personal insights, and reflective e-learning exercises to help learners make informed decisions that respect their unique cultural and personal circumstances.

Dr Els van Ooijen explores the question: should supervision (and therapy) deal with the wider contextual issues that clients bring? She discusses how therapists can be helped to engage with clients’ context-related issues through supervision.

Anti-oppressive supervision – the Working Within Diversity supervision model for practice

Myira Khan explores how courses and services can increase accessibility in training and services for trainees and clients, by identifying what barriers exist around training institutions and services for students and clients. She explains how proximity to power or oppression determines the social location of both the therapist and the client and the importance of working to balance this dynamic.

Group supervision – theoretical understanding and skills development to work as a group supervisor

Dr Faisal Mahmood shares his knowledge of the theory and practice of working with groups as a supervisor. He explores the advantages and challenges of group supervision whilst explaining theoretical knowledge to increase your experiential capacity as a group facilitator.

Exploring the therapeutic experience of Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy clients who have self-identified as experiencing coercive control: a qualitative study

Aim or purpose  

The overall research aim was to explore the therapeutic experience of Internal Family Systems (IFS) psychotherapy clients who self-identified as having experienced coercive control as this approach had not been previously studied with this population. The study sought to understand the impact of coercive control on an individuals’ lived experience of both their internal experiences and their external experience of living in the everyday world, and to understand the impact of IFS psychotherapy on individual symptoms as well as their overall lived experience of this psychotherapeutic approach.
