Hello Fellow Counsellor, my name is Amanda and I’m a PhD student at the University of Chester. I’m looking for counsellors to take part in my research which aims to explore gendered power dynamics in the therapeutic relationship. What is meant by this in the context of this research is how the gender of the client and counsellor interact.

Participants in the research will be asked to take on the role of a co-researcher. What this means is that we’ll work collaboratively to achieve the objectives of the research. To take part in the research there are two criteria:

  • You must be counsellor who identifies as a woman or non-binary person
  • You must have an interest in and a commitment to developing awareness of gender dynamics in therapy.

An important part of the research is that it representative, within the criteria above, of as many counsellors as possible. I would encourage those that do not feel they are sufficiently represented within research to get in touch for more information.

Ethical approval for this research has been granted by the Department of Social and Political Science Ethics Committee and the University of Chester.

If you have any questions about the research, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. The closing date for this research is 17th December 2021. I look forward to hearing from you.
