Participants needed in research for exploring counsellors’ experiences of working with clients experiencing medically unexplained physical symptoms

My name is Anne Hagues, I am a final year MSc Counselling student at the University of Northampton. I am looking for qualified person-centred, psychodynamic or integrative counsellors to take part in a research study exploring counsellors’ experiences of working with clients experiencing medically unexplained physical symptoms.

The aim of the research is to gain insight into helpful or challenging aspects of working with these clients in order to explore best practices that would ultimately help both these clients and the counsellors working with them.

Participation involves a 60-minute video and audio recorded online interview.

I am looking to recruit participants to explore their feelings and experiences of working with this client group.  This will be a chance for you to contribute to the understanding of the needs of both this client group and counsellors working with them.

In order to take part in this study participants must:

  • Be a qualified person-centred, psychodynamic or integrative counsellor
  • Have a minimum of 1 year post-qualification counselling experience
  • Have had experience of working with at least one client experiencing medically unexplained physical symptoms
  • Be a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)
  • Have access to a computer and internet in order to attend an online interview

Confidentiality will be maintained throughout the study and if you agree to take part you are free to withdraw from the study at any time.

If you are interested in taking part in this study or would like any further information about it or what participation would involve, please email me at anne.hagues20@my.northampton.ac.uk

Thank you, I look forward to hearing from you.

Anne.
