I am a practicing person centred counsellor and undergraduate student at Anglia Ruskin University, studying for my BA. For my dissertation, I am undertaking some research – the title of my project is, “An Exploration of the Experiences of Clients with Social Anxiety in Counselling Relationships”.

The intention of the study is to explore what it is like for someone that has experienced some element of social anxiety to be part of a counselling relationship.

I am looking to conduct semi-structured interviews with participants online through video conferencing technology (Zoom). The interview will last for approximately one hour and will be conducted at a time that is convenient for participants. There are various options regarding how the Zoom interview can be undertaken. Participants can choose to a) have their cameras and microphone switched on, b) have their camera switched off but still use the microphone or c) have their camera and microphone both off and just talk by typing into the ‘chat’ function – whichever option feels most comfortable.

To participate in the study, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Over 18 years old.
  • Must have experienced some kind of social anxiety or self-identify as socially anxious.
  • Must have had a previous counselling experience (but not be in counselling currently).

If you are interested and would like to take part, please contact me to ask any questions you may have and receive full details.
