I am a third year MA Counselling and Psychotherapy student at the University of Roehampton. I am conducting research to explore how working with restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic impacted therapeutic work with clients.

The research
The purpose of the research is to explore therapists’ experiences of providing school-based counselling during the pandemic. For example, how did the COVID-19 measures such as wearing face coverings; social distancing; and regular hand washing/sanitising impact the therapeutic process with your clients? What impact did this experience have on you and your counselling practice?

The study will involve:

  • An interview of approximately 45-60 minutes.
  • Interviews will be conducted online or face-to-face at the University of Roehampton.
  • Interviews will be audio/video recorded.

Interviewee criteria:

  • A minimum of three years' experience as a qualified Child and Young Persons counsellor or psychotherapist
  • Practice non-directive play-based therapy
  • Currently working with children in a school setting
  • Have been in practice prior to and during the pandemic

The research has been granted ethical approval by the University of Roehampton Ethics Committee. It will also comply with GDPR guidelines.
