I am currently a 2nd year (final year) student at the University of Northampton doing my MSc in Counselling Children and Young People. I am in the process of writing my dissertation about counsellor self-care when working with youths in prison settings.
The purpose of this study is to focus on the counsellor’s point of view of what it is like working in prisons with youths and what self-care routines are followed. It will consider whether self-care plays a big part in a counsellor’s life and how they manage to build their own resilience and client’s resilience.
Once completed, I am hoping this work will show the importance of self-care and will have a beneficial impact on how counsellors consider it into their daily routines. A collection of different techniques will be collected throughout the study and can then be shared with you to give you a wider range of self-care ideas.
The process will include a semi-structured interview online via a laptop which will last around 30 minutes. This opportunity is voluntary and you can withdraw at any time.
To participate in the study you must meet the following criteria:
- Qualified counsellor from any specialty
- Are currently working with youths in prison settings or have previously worked with youths in prison settings
- Post qualified and accredited by BACP or UKCP
If interested, I will also send over a Participant Information Sheet, a Consent Form, and a set of questions for the interview before it takes place.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Your participation is very important to me and I would love to hear your experiences and be able to write about them in my study.
