The impact of a serious illness is experienced by not only patients, but also those around them, especially their children. Such impact could have long-lasting effects, potentially carried forward into adulthood.

My research aims to explore the experience of counsellors who were living with an ill parent in their childhood and its impact on themselves and their client work. I am seeking qualified counsellors whose parent (mother or father) had a chronic somatic illness that lasted for a year or longer and was acquired when a counsellor was older than 3 and younger than 16 years old.

Participants who wish to contribute to my research will be sensitively supported in discussing their experiences during an hour face-to-face recorded interview taken place at a mutually agreed time and location.

The study is being carried out to fulfil the requirements for a BA (Hons) in Integrative-Relational Counselling at Kingston College and Middlesex University and a process of ethical review has been undertaken and approved by Kingston College.

Thank you,
