Are you a qualified counsellor working in a secondary school context with young people age 11-18? Do you work with young people who have experienced or are experiencing trauma? If so, I’d really like to hear from you!
My name is Isabel Willerton and I am a third year student at Staffordshire University studying for a MSc in Psychotherapeutic Counselling.
I am planning to conduct a thematic analysis of how counsellors / therapists working with 11-18 year old's, experience working with trauma in the therapy room. This will take the form of a semi-structured interview via MS Teams to explore the types of trauma you experience with students, the impact this has on your work as a counsellor, how your organisation supports you, whether you find other factors have an impact and how you care for yourself in this work.
To participate in this study, you must:
- Be aged 18, or over
- Be a qualified and practising counsellor/psychotherapist currently working in secondary education in England with a supervisor as per BACP guidelines.
- Not currently receiving treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder or an associated co-morbidity.
This project has been granted ethical approval by the Research Ethics Committee of the Department of Psychology at Staffordshire University.
If you would like to find out more, or are interested in taking part, you can email Isabel on firstname.lastname@example.org.
