Participants needed for research on how social anxiety affects students training in counselling and psychotherapy.

My name is Laura Grey, and I’m a third year student on the MA Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Cumbria.

As part of my dissertation, I will be undertaking research that aims to provide a detailed account of what it is like to experience social anxiety on a counselling and psychotherapy course. This project has received ethical approval from the Research Ethics panel.

I will be conducting photo-elicitation interviews, where participants will be invited to provide up to 5-10 photographs that reflect their experience of social anxiety as a student counsellor.  They will then be invited to discuss these in an interview with myself, which may take up to 1 hour.

Interviews can take place either online, via Microsoft Teams, or in person.

To participate in this study, you must:

  • Be currently enrolled on a Counselling and Psychotherapy course within a UK university.
  • Be 18 or over
  • Self-identify as experiencing social anxiety.
  • Have experienced university prior to the COVID-19 pandemic OR have had some experience of face-to-face learning on the course.

Participation is entirely voluntary, and you have the right to withdraw from the study up to 2 weeks after participation.

You can contact Laura Grey at S1806887@uni.cumbria.ac.uk for further information.

Thank you for your time!
