The purpose of this research is to explore counselling professionals’ experience of working therapeutically with FGM/C and it is hoped that this work will have a beneficial impact on future training and raising awareness regarding issues relating to FGM.
I am looking for qualified therapists who have experience working therapeutically with survivors of female genital mutilation to take part in a semi-structured interview at a time and place convenient to you, as part of my dissertation for my BA (Hons) Counselling degree.
The interview is expected to last between 40-60 minutes and will cover four broad themes relating to; (a) your experience/background, (b) the main presenting issues amongst women who have undergone FGM/C, (c) the main barriers to effective provision of services and, (d) the requirements needed to improve current knowledge and services.
I am able to interview participants in Essex/London areas at a time and place convenient to you. Alternatively, interviews can be recorded via Skype at an agreed time. Ethical approval has been granted by the Ethical Review Committee at South Essex College of Further and Higher Education.
For any further information or should you wish to take part, please contact the researcher Sarah-Jane Appleton at email@example.com. A Participant Information Sheet and Consent Form will be given prior to the interview.
I hope to hear from you.
