The purpose for this research is to facilitate my dissertation required for the MA in Contemporary Relationship Studies, as well as having a genuine interest in counselling the older client. I hope this will contribute to decreasing the barriers to this group accessing our services.
An “older person” for the purpose of this research is identified as being aged 65 years or older.
My rationale for embarking on the subject matter for this review was inspired by noticing in my own clinical practice that 4.6% of my individual clients seen between April 2018 and September 2020 were aged 65 and over. The BACP recognize that research has revealed that older people are less likely to be referred for counselling and have commenced an Older People Priority Workstream to investigate this further.
I invite you to complete my survey which is available until 1st March 2021.
