Key information
What's included
Your booking includes:
- 5 hours of CPD presentations
- a CPD certificate to download
- opportunities to network with other attendees
In a sector marked by financial constraint, rising demand, reputational sensitivity, and increasing complexity, leading student services has never required more courage.
Leading Through Uncertainty: Courage, Risk, and Responsibility brings together members of the HUCS network for a reflective and practice-focused exploration of leadership in challenging times.
The session draws on research and crisis leadership insights to reframe risk as an inevitable, and potentially generative, dimension of service leadership. Participants will explore how leaders respond when resources are limited, scrutiny is high, and expectations are competing.
Through facilitated breakout discussions and interactive dialogue, attendees will examine:
- The risks they are managing — explicitly and implicitly
- The multiple leadership “hats” they wear
- What tolerating risk looks like in practice
- How to balance duty of care with organisational reputation
- How to build robust services and model grounded leadership
The event closes with a reflective roundtable focused on practical next steps, identifying meaningful, achievable actions that can be implemented immediately within teams and institutions.
This is a space for thoughtful challenge, shared insight, and practical strengthening of leadership practice across the HUCS community.
