About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome. I'm Sal, a skilled Counsellor with over 15 years’ experience in providing therapy and coaching. I qualified in 2007 and over the years I have worked with people of all ages, each with their own unique experience of life and their own story to tell.

What kinds of issues can I help with?

People come to me for help with a wide range of issues. I usually say that my main area is helping people work through transitional stages of their life, because there are so many times in adult life that we feel unprepared for change, loss or uncertainty. Often in these moments we feel like we're losing a sense of who we are and this can lead to us feeling a whole range of challenging and distressing feelings. When we feel low it can impact on our ability to function, have healthy relationships and feel good about ourselves. I help people find the resources, confidence, and motivation to make the positive changes they want.

Additional areas of focus:

Stress, Anxiety, Addictions, Trauma and abuse, Grief, Career difficulties, Depression, Coaching, Compassion fatigue, ADHD, Attachment Issues, Blended Family Issues, Anger, Control Issues, Divorce and Separation, Family Problems, Guilt and Shame, Infidelity, Jealousy, Life Purpose, Self-Harm, Self-Love, Women's Issues, Young Adult Issues

Practice description

What kind of Counselling do I offer?

I have a humanistic focus, a relaxed, eclectic style and am client-centred at the heart of all I do. Whether you are seeking a short-term solution-focused approach, a more in-depth exploration of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, or you need a safe space to share your story in your own time.

In our sessions I prioritise creating a genuine, confidential relationship where we can work collaboratively towards helping you find the resources, confidence, and motivation to make the changes you want.

At the core of my practice is the belief that everyone’s story deserves to be heard and valued. That’s why I am committed to creating a warm, honest, and open environment where you feel comfortable to be yourself and to share your experiences and emotions without feeling judged.

My first session

You have made it here so perhaps you feel ready to begin telling your own story. I understand that it has taken courage to take this first step.

I work online using Zoom, which is a secure video platform and instant chat service - you can choose to work with me using video or instant messaging, which works the same way as using things like WhatsApp.

For each session I send you an invite for the agreed day and time and then hopefully the technology works on the day! You will need to find yourself a quiet, comfortable and private space where you won't be disturbed, but feel free to bring along a cuppa or a drink and to make yourself relaxed.

How to arrange a first counselling session?

It's natural to feel nervous about what to expect from Counselling. I offer an initial 20 minute online or telephone session where you can have a brief, informal chat about what you feel you need from me and from Counselling, and to ask any questions.

It's important that you feel comfortable with me and with using video for your sessions. This initial chat also gives you an opportunity to get a sense of whether I'm a good fit for you and to try out video to see how it feels.

About me and my therapy practice

I offer Clinical Supervision for counsellors, therapists and other professionals working within the social and mental health care and education sectors. I work with practitioners in private practice and as an external Clinical Supervisor for organisations and services who pay for supervision for their employed or contracted staff. I trained Integratively and work with practitioners from all backgrounds and with most theoretical approaches.

I believe the most effective Supervision is a collaborative  experience. I want you to get the most out of your supervision sessions, therefore my priority is that we build a good relationship where you feel comfortable to share yourself and your practice openly. I expect you to take responsibility for what you bring and need from your sessions and take a relaxed and flexible approach to how we achieve those needs together.
