About me and my therapy practice

Would you like to understand why you feel, behave and think in certain patterns? Explore where this originates in a safe space and build more self acceptance? My approach is unique to each client but always underpinned by empathy, genuineness and complete acceptance.

As an experienced Integrative Psychotherapist I have worked extensively with heightened levels of anxiety, anger management, depression, patterns of unhelpful behaviours developing and maintaining healthier relationships.

Practice description

It is my aim to create a compassionate, relaxed & safe space where you feel truly listened to & heard. In this space we can explore thoughts, feelings & behaviours that may be making life harder with the aim to bring acceptance and ultimately change. As therapy progresses clients can experience different changes such as; greater social ease, higher self-confidence, improved relationships and reduced stress and anxiety. 

I always try to bring my authentic self into each session and feel that this human touch with its honesty and inevitable imperfection can help create an environment that allows clients to be more in touch with their full and authentic self. 

My first session

Prior to the initial assessment session, contact can be kept to just email. Before our first meeting, an initial assessment form is emailed out which along with standard questions, e.g. contact details etc, also has three open ended questions being: What prompted you to contact a counsellor? What changes in life circumstances / self do you want? Is there any other information you wish to tell me about? 

This is emailed back prior to the initial session or if clients prefer then I can call for a 10-15 minute phone call (no charge) during which we will talk about the same three questions. 

Our first session is an assessment session which provides an opportunity for you to discuss why you have sought out therapy and for us to establish what you hope to get from the sessions. It is also the time where I will ask questions to build a picture of your life in terms of: sleep, eating, coping mechanisms, family, support, work/study, hobbies. If at the end of the session, we both feel that we can work together then I usually suggest we start with six sessions. There is no set period of time for therapy and I regularly review our sessions to make sure you are getting what you feel you need.
