About me and my therapy practice
Thank you for taking the time to view my profile. As a BACP Senior Accredited Integrative Therapist I have worked over the past 10 years mainly from a Person Centred / Humanistic perspective. This means you are empowered to discover solutions and new pathways to wellbeing from troubling issues and find release from suffering in a supportive environment. As your counsellor I offer you my honesty and respect while we explore issues you feel you would like to bring to counselling. I do not have the answer to your issue, my role is to help support you in finding your own answer whatever that happens to be, helping you move towards a rich and fulfilling life. When I am asked what issues I work with I now answer ‘Life’
In my practice I have offered aspects of the Enneagram for many years to assist clients in understanding their core motivations and prominent defences. For many this has been a ‘light bulb moment’. At the very least, it helps to open doors of awareness, promoting personal development and self understanding.
The Enneagram is a personality ‘theory’ describing nine strategies by which the psyche develops a worldview as relates to self and others. The Enneagram reveals that all people belong to one of nine major personality types. The purpose of the Enneagram is ‘not’ to put you into a box quite the opposite, but to help you identify both the strengths and the limitations of a preferred or evolved strategy and to give you guidance on how you may develop more capacity and freedom to move beyond the limiting aspects of the ‘box you might find yourself in’?
I have found this model to be transformative providing valuable, practical and compelling insights into our own strengths, weaknesses, and growth.
When we are troubled, anxious, distressed, or even perplexed by life's numerous issues, counselling with a skilled counsellor in a therapeutic setting can help you. The therapeutic setting offers up an opportunity for ‘time out’ to explore these issues. Talking with a trained counsellor could help you gain a greater understanding of our own personal deep-rooted feelings and ingrained patterns of behaviour, allowing you to gain a better understanding of yourself. The therapeutic setting is essential in providing continuous support to you as you move towards a better understanding and recognition of your past and present issues, and learn how to deal with them. I provide a private counselling suite, 'a safe space', in a discreet, quiet, and tranquil rural location close to Antrim town. This is not in my home! My main work is with adult clients over 21.
My first session
Prior to meeting I will provide you with information sheets on counselling and what to expect in your first session. I will also provide my contract for you to look over prior to our first meeting. The first 20/30 minutes are offered free to allow you to ask any questions you may have about counselling, to meet with me and see my facility.
You are free to end the session at this point to consider your position; or we would move into a formal session, contracting and discussing the reason you are seeking counselling. I look forward to hearing from you.
