About me and my therapy practice

We are all influenced by the people in our lives and the experiences we have had both past and present, all of which serve to shape and define us. Sometimes we need help in understanding how the culmination of these factors can get in the way of being able to live life fully and with ease.

Maybe you're looking for relief from the pain of anxiety or depression. You could be struggling with bereavement or loss. You may want a better relationship with yourself and/or those closest to you. I offer a non-judgemental space in which I can help you to explore your feelings, beliefs and patterns of behaviour. We can journey together into your inner world, make sense of your difficulties and create ways of coping, healing and thriving.

I am client-led in terms of topics discussed and pace of work. I may invite you to think about things differently or offer an alternative perspective. This is always done with an attitude of unconditional acceptance. I bring warmth, empathy and a sense of humour. I can be challenging where necessary whilst being supportive and compassionate.

I have extensive experience of working with difficulties such as anxiety, depression, identity, low self-esteem, loss, poor body image and stress.

I have particular experience of working with consent, sexual exploitation and violence.

I have specialist experience of working with addiction and with those struggling with alcohol and substances. I am familiar with 12 Step recovery programmes.

My practice is non-discriminatory, race and LGBTQ+ affirmative. I work hard to ensure that I am aware of issues that affect minority groups to which I do not belong.

I am gender, sexuality and relationship diversity informed. I have respect for the individuality, experience and value of each client.

Practice description

I am a qualified and experienced Integrative Counsellor. I hold a BACP accredited Professional Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

I work relationally which means the relationship we form as client and therapist is extremely important in terms of promoting healing. I am influenced by humanistic and psychodynamic approaches. This supports a flexible way of working that honours and values client uniqueness. In simple terms, at the core of each approach are the central issues of how we relate, to ourselves, to others, to our past experiences and to our ever evolving sense of self.

I sometimes use guided meditations and breath work in order to create a sense of grounding.

I offer focused short term counselling (typically 6-12 sessions) and long-term therapy for anyone wanting to work through more complex and deep seated issues.

Sessions are 50 minutes long and take place usually once a week at the same time, day and venue.  Online sessions range from £60-£70 depending on time and location i.e if I conduct the session from my therapy venue. or from my home. Daytime In-person sessions are £65, evening sessions are £70.

My Islington venue is on Upper Street, 5 minutes walk from Highbury and Islington station.

My first session

Please contact me initially via email or text, I will then get back to you via email with 24 hours. I will ask you a few more questions and then we can arrange a mutually convenient time for an initial zoom or telephone consultation.

I offer a free 20-30 minute initial zoom or telephone consultation where we can introduce ourselves, discuss logistics and you can ask me any questions you may have. Should you choose to proceed, we can arrange an initial appointment.

The first appointment  has an assessment style. I will ask you questions about your personal history, why you are seeking counselling at this time and what you hope to achieve from it. We can also assess mutual suitability i.e whether I am the right therapist for you. If we’re both happy to proceed we will agree to the parameters of our work together.
