About me and my therapy practice

I believe in the power of counselling to enhance life on many levels. Therapy can be a deeply transformative process, especially when you are able to talk openly to someone knowing you will be fully accepted, regardless of what it is you have to say.

Deciding you want to start counselling and making that first contact with a counsellor is not easy. And sticking with the therapy as you uncover painful truths and explore difficult experiences can feel overwhelming at times, but I believe it's worth it.

For all my clients, however they find counselling: terrifying, challenging or a blessed relief, I have a deep respect. The work my clients undertake, the courage they show in being willing to explore difficult and painful experiences or emotions, is both humbling and inspiring.

I also share my clients' joy when they, having struggled so bravely, begin to feel they are coming through the darkness; when they feel they are beginning to find a new but very real peace from what had previously troubled them.

We all face difficulties - life is challenging! And we can all benefit from having someone who is wholly on our side to help us to deal with those difficulties.

You might be struggling to cope with something in your life at the moment, or you might be wrestling with something from the past. You might know what it is, or you might just be walking around under a cloud, unable to shake a sense of unease, discomfort or unhappiness.

Practice description

When we realise that we are ready to tackle whatever it is that is upsetting us, or to face the thoughts or feelings that are holding us back, then talking to a good counsellor is very very likely to help us move on and feel different.

My clients find me warm, respectful and easy to be with; their feedback often speaks of the quality of the relationship we build. You will find me sincere, honest and non-judgemental.

I work with a range of issues including and especially anxiety, depression, bereavement and work-related stress in ways that research has shown are effective, but I also have a broad range of experience working with other issues such as alcoholism, loneliness, anger, low self-esteem...

I will work closely with you to understand what it is you would like from the sessions and to provide the kind of therapy that suits you. We will collaborate to choose a pathway which suits and best supports you. Most clients make significant progress in between 6 and 12 sessions.

I have consulting rooms in central Manchester and in Todmorden, but am currently offering and telephone sessions.

My primary training is in the Person-centred approach, and I hold a PGDip/MSc in Counselling & Psychotherapy from University of Salford.

I also have had further training in CBT.

I have a Diploma in Funeral Celebrancy, and hold an English Secondary Post Grad CE.

I am a member of the BACP and I am a member of the DBS update service.

You will find more information about me on my website, or you can always get in touch.
