About me and my therapy practice

I believe that my job as a counsellor is to help people help themselves. I have a successful private practice, as well as many years experience working in local agencies. My theoretical approach is integrative, which includes working psychodynamically with the past, and humanistically with the present. I also find CBT and other tools and props to be an important resource. In my work I find it important to identify the triggers and finding traumas that underly the client’s experience. I believe that what happens in childhood reverberates throughout our lives.

About me and my therapy practice

It is an important part of your practice to ensure you are ethical at all times. I show you how to have a safe practice and ensure your client is well supported and help you practice ethically. Experience is a way of learning and developing. We all make mistakes and learn by them. This way is my way forward. By sharing the responsibilities in a relationship helps the supervisee, learn and develop. It also clarifies opportunities to feedback and gives time to reflect. What it means to be a supervisor - A Supervisor shares the responsibility with the counsellor to monitor the standards and ethical practice of the counsellor, she also helps the counsellor in her development in skills, knowledge and understanding. Supervision gives the counsellor the chance to explore opportunities for discharging held emotions and recharging energies, ideas and creativity. Counsellors sometimes experience reoccurring problems or blind spots and run into difficulties because there are unresolved issues in their own lives or personalities. Current life events can also produce stress that interferes with the Counsellor’s occupational effectiveness.

Supervision enhances your practice. It is important you feel safe and are guided in your work.
