About me and my therapy practice
'Life is about being and becoming' Carl Rogers
Are you facing difficulties or considering a change in your life? Taking the first step to decide that you will make a change is the MOST important.
About Me
Hello I'm Nicola, a qualified counsellor. My journey into this vocation started when I sought counselling due to a close bereavement I suffered. Seeing the benefits of counselling for myself and the growth I went through, made me want to retrain from a teacher to a counsellor.
Since retraining I have helped clients with varying issues and supported them to make positive changes in their lives. Providing a warm and gentle environment to foster a strong therapeutic relationship, we discuss and delve into the client's experiences.
Practice description
My Training in Integrative counselling
I trained in integrative counselling specifically so that I can have the freedom to choose the techniques and models that are best suited to the clients’ requirements. These include psychodynamic, solution based, person centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis. Please see my website for more information.
Remote and Face to Face Counselling
I offer face to face Covid secure counselling in East or North London- Enfield, South Woodford or North Finchley and online counselling through video calls or telephone counselling.
My experience
My experience over 7 years includes working with a bereavement charity which offered over 12 sessions to clients. A community charity which had clients with a variety of presenting issues including relationship issues, abuse, anxiety and infertility. Furthermore, I have experience of counselling in a GP NHS surgery working within a 6 session time frame. I supported people with depression, insomnia, relationship issues, anxiety, work stress, childhood related issues and domestic violence.
I have also worked within social services supporting families struggling with a range of difficulties.
My first session
Sessions
When first reaching out to me for support we will discuss and arrange an assessment session where we can both find out about each other and what your reason for counselling is at this time as well as your goals for therapy. Then, if we are both in agreement to proceed we can arrange our first session which will be the same time and day of the week. Regular counselling sessions are key to self development and change. Therefore, I see clients weekly but I do offer fortnightly sessions as well.
Every 6 sessions we will review the work and discuss the next goal of therapy. Having honest and open discussions is key to growth and building our relationship together. Therefore, I give the opportunity to discuss how you are finding the sessions and anything that you feel you would like to be different.
Working with me
A benefit of working with me is walking through your experiences at your own pace. Exploring the past, present, and future, identifying patterns of behaviour, thoughts, and feelings. Using authenticity and transparency, we will discuss a new way forward that will serve you a greater purpose. Past clients are thankful that I support them to process their emotions and improve upon their self worth and consequently their self esteem.
Past clients have seen the benefits of techniques and being able to fully explore and develop as people through, seeing a new perspective and having a determination and commitment to therapy. Examples of practical tools could be around being able to explore and analyse negative thoughts and discussing where they come from then how to look at them differently. Furthermore, breathing, relaxation exercises, or communication techniques.
