About me and my therapy practice
I aim to help people to manage the trials and tribulations of modern life. This starts by spending time on ourselves. But why should you spend money on such a selfish pursuit? You may be surprised to learn that helping people feel better about being themselves can have huge benefits for partners, families and friends. A more self-confident person is better at relating to others in a compassionate and empathic way. I'm sure they would consider it money well spent!
I am open to working with anyone, however my strengths are in supporting people with low self-esteem and low self worth to feel better about themselves. These are issues that have affected me personally but I’ve been able to make huge changes to my mindset and I’m able to manage feelings of self doubt when they come (no one feels confident all the time!). I can finally accept myself for who I am in a way I never thought possible before. This has had a positive impact on my relationships with family and friends. I forgive my ‘faults’ and my mistakes. I’m not afraid of criticism as it doesn’t impact upon my inner self. I feel a sense of pride and worth in who I am. I believe that everyone has the right and privilege to know that feeling and think “you know what, I’m ok”.
I practise a form of Person-Centred Counselling that is based around my training and personal experience of what's worked for me. The guiding principle is following Carl Rogers' Core Conditions necessary for therapeutic change to occur (1957). Empathy, Unconditional Positive Regard and Congruence are my touchstones. However, I am also very influenced by the idea of non-directivity, the idea being ‘You know you best’. If you want somebody to direct you towards a certain path or analyse why you’ve made particular life choices, I may not be a good fit. If however you want somebody to accept you as you, and give you the courage and confidence to accept you as you are, I could be the right counsellor for you.
My first session
I provide an introductory session priced at £40 where we will discuss your current situation and I will endeavour to find out whether or not the therapy that I offer can help you at this time.
