About me and my therapy practice

As a multi-disciplinary artist and counsellor, I invite adults and children of all ages to honour the process of creating and digesting inner imagery, beliefs by making personal meaning.

In my efforts to build bridges between mainstream and integrative health care and wellbeing, I am responding to the world wide crisis of climate change and pandemic by developing sustainable ideas for self-care when my clients feel ready and able.

Through guided and intuitive art-making, I steadily endeavour to empower and energise individuals in taking responsibility for their personal wellbeing. With watercolour painting, clay modelling, poetry, charcoal and soft pastel arts, I aim to inspire dissonant conversations and create opportunities for change.

Through my work so far, I have come to firmly believe that specific arts processes and nature connections can be enlisted to assist in addressing a number of difficult and pressing challenges for individuals and humanity at this time.

Practice description

Transpersonal Art therapy is a creative approach that can be used to tap into your inner landscape and explore your own personal imagery. You do not need to be an artist to try art therapy either; you simply need to put pencil, crayon or paint to paper and let the creativity flow.

‘Transpersonal’ literally refers to ‘travelling within by means of 'meditation’ or ‘denoting or relating to states or areas of consciousness beyond the limits of personal identity’. The processes take you on a journey beyond your conditioned thinking and into a deeper state of relaxation where you can access a higher state of consciousness. Doing this, allows you to release what is hidden in your subconscious by bringing it to a conscious level, by way of Art.

Mark-making as Art-making can be particularly useful to help verbalise overwhelming emotions from the past traumas and unresolved issues and to meet present crises. My work can help with life transitions, stress, loss, grief, anger, body image and eating disorders. The imagery created is all about the meaning it has to you, not anyone else, as Transpersonal Art Therapy is client-centred and not diagnostic. It can help you to formulate new perceptions that in turn can lead to positive growth and healing.

Creative Self-Care Skills I hope to impart:

Movement Forms, Clapping and Body Rhythm Games,Form Drawing, Imagination Exercises, Wet-on-Wet Watercolour Painting, Oil Rubbing, Singing, Clay Modelling, Object Constellations Work, Use of Postcard Images, Sandtray Play, working with Stories and Poetry, embodying Music, working with Nature elements, Walking in Nature,Soul Verses, Creative Speech exercises, Eurhythmy exercises.
