About me and my therapy practice

I have been a therapist for 30 years and a qualified supervisor for nearly 20 years. Alongside my private practice, I’ve worked for 11 years in the NHS, and for 15 years managed a large team in the university sector at LSE.

I enjoy supervising experienced qualified therapists and trainees based in many different settings, and have much experience of working with counsellors based in the NHS, universities, the voluntary sector and private practice. I also offer non line-managerial supervision to counsellors, staff and managers working in the NHS, public sector bodies and the private sector.

As a counsellor and psychotherapist, I’ve worked with hundreds of people in private practice, GP surgeries, hospital-based clinical psychology departments and at LSE (London School of Economics). I’ve also managed a large NHS counselling service, and have been the Head of Counselling and then Head of Student Wellbeing at LSE, managing a team of 30 counsellors, mental health advisers and disability advisers. I also worked for 8 years as a core trainer on the CPPD BACP Accredited counselling course, training many cohorts of students over this time.

Qualifications

  • MSc Birkbeck College/ British Association of Psychotherapists 1999
  • Postgraduate Diploma Tavistock Centre 2005
  • Diploma in Clinical Supervision CPPD 2002
  • Senior Accredited Member of BACP, initial accreditation 1993

As a therapist and supervisor I’m interested in making sense of people’s difficulties, helping to find meaning and solutions to problems.

I believe the quality of both the therapeutic and supervisory relationship is vital to help people feel heard and understood. We best discover how best to work with our clients through openness, curiosity and the capacity to collaborate with others.

Practice description

Supervision sessions last for 50 minutes and can take place on a weekly or fortnightly basis, depending on your needs and circumstances.

I'm currently working on Zoom, seeing people in the UK and many countries at present. I have been using Zoom for the past year, and used it extensively in all kinds of therapeutic, supervisory, managerial and consultancy settings.

I plan to offer Zoom and face to face meetings in future.

My first session

The first meeting give us a chance to look at your needs as a supervisor, and work out how well our professional and personal align. As you would expect, there is no commitment through this first meeting, and it’s up to you whether you choose to take supervision with me any further after our first meeting together.

My approach is integrative with a strong psychodynamic base, and I draw on 25 years experience of offering cognitive behavioural therapy and other approaches.

If you have any questions about supervision, please feel free to contact me and we can arrange a preliminary phone call or Zoom meeting.

Practice description

Sessions last for 50 minutes and can take place on a weekly or fortnightly basis, depending on your needs and circumstances.

I'm currently working on Zoom, seeing people in the UK and many countries at present. I will offer Zoom and face to face meetings in future. I have been using Zoom for the past year and found it can be a helpful place in which to ‘meet’, as long as you have a confidential place in which you can speak in confidence during the session.

As well as offering counselling and psychotherapy, I am an experienced supervisor working with qualified therapists and trainees. I have extensive experience as a senior manager in the university sector, and also offer non line-managerial supervision to counsellors, staff and managers working in the NHS, public sector bodies and the private sector.

My first session

The first meeting give us a chance to look at the difficulties you are having and work out how counselling may be able to help you. This is a time to raise any questions you may have about counselling and psychotherapy, and help you think about what kind of help is best for you right now. There is no commitment through this first meeting, and it’s up to you whether you choose to take this further.

If you have any other question, please feel free to contact me and we can arrange a preliminary phone call or Zoom meeting.
