About me and my therapy practice
I am an accredited member of the BACP. and have worked within the field of mental health for over 16 years. I abide by the ethical practice codes laid down by the BACP.
I feel that good therapy is a way of making sense of your world and how you function within it. The main focus of our time together would be your presenting problems and the emerging themes that appear within this.
I use an open and integrative approach that includes person centered, sometimes goal orientated, short-term psychotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Sessions are usually once a week and last 50 minutes.
Having had personal long term experience of therapy, I understand the inherent challenge and benefits of making positive adjustments and changes.
I work one-to-one with adults from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. My specific skills include working with depression, anxiety, stress, addiction, loss, anger and adults with ADHD.
I find this type of approach can allow for better processing of information. It can help with inspiration from the world around us and blends gentle exercise with a slightly less face-to-face theraputic experience.
In this approach we would initailly meet for assesssment in the counselling room. Boundaries for this outdoor theraputic approach would be discussed and agreed as some different rules apply in this setting.
My first session
Time limited therapy can last for around twenty sessions although I work for longer and shorter time periods.
Our first session is assessment. We would discuss the possible length of therapy and what you hope to achieve from our time together.
Sessions allow time for reflection, and the possibility of making changes. This space can allow for the opportunity of moving forwards in a healthier, more informed direction.
