About me and my therapy practice

currently offering online sessions over zoom and phone,  home visits, and walking therapy

Listening starts the process of 'tuning in'. As everyone is unique - our time together is tailored to validate and support the world as you experience it

How we might work together emerges naturally, according to needs. Drawing on an integrative approach that taps into traditional wisdom evidenced by neuroscience, many different viewpoints offer possibilities for more helpful feelings and thinking about the issues that bring people to counselling

Whatever has set you on this road, my primary task is to make you feel safe & accepted, and with a focus on compassion for oneself exploring even difficult experiences becomes possible

Perhaps you are considering counselling because so-called ‘experts’ know or knew better - how you should feel think and be, and now you feel an incompleteness - perhaps inauthenticity, of not being fully yourself. Many problems seem to unpack with learning to accept all that we are, becoming 'known to ourselves in a way we might never have experienced before

I believe that what has got us to the point where we are is evidence of great inner resources and, I believe that if the solutions we gain from a course of counselling are truly our own, they will sustain us well into the future.

My first session

Many things happen in a first session,  and I see my role as responding to your expectations about what counselling is, whilst also defining its limitations (it can't guarantee us a happy-ever-after, for example)

Listening to your story, we arrive together at an understanding of how counselling might help, the conditions of confidentiality, my ethical commitment to put your interests first,  and the practicalities of our counselling agreement.
