About me and my therapy practice
Whatever you are struggling with - anxiety, depression, low self worth, anger, lack of motivation, unwanted behaviours of all sorts (too much/too little food, exercise, drugs, sex), ultimately it's about the things you have been through in life that made those behaviours your best choices at the time. But now they are unhelpful. That's where our work begins. Understanding the forces underlying these behaviours, thoughts or feelings is the key to making other choices possible now and in the future.
How do you decide to get counselling? Is it meant for someone like you struggling with whatever is going on for you right now? Or is it for others, people with real problems. Maybe you feel you are too much, too difficult, or you can’t pin down just what the problem is. By now you may almost have talked yourself out of taking the next step and contacting me. I know how that feels. Chances are if you have got this far and are looking at counsellors, then there is something going on that’s worth us checking out, don’t you think?
My first session
This is the time for you to see if I am the right fit for you. Do I seem to ‘get’ you and what you are going through? You get to share any doubts or fears, tell me where you want to be and ask how I can help with that journey.
I welcome your caution. Maybe it would help to hear what I have learned from experience - that change is possible even in the face of doubt and fear. What makes this process work is finding that you are no longer on that journey alone. I’ll navigate that path with you.
