About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced Senior Accredited BACP counsellor currently offering telephone and video counselling. I have worked full-time within the counselling field for 24 years, in the NHS, non-statutory and private sectors.  I have had a busy private practice in East Dulwich since 2004.

My approach is integrative, with the most effective approach used to meet your needs. This is underpinned by a humanistic philosophy that assumes the capacity of each person to shape their own life. I draw from person-centred, existential and cognitive-behavioural therapies, with an emphasis on empowering the individual.

I have experience of helping with a wide range of difficulties such as stress, anxiety, depression and relationship issues. I have particular expertise in bereavement (I was a hospice counsellor), loss, trauma, employment issues, problems with drugs or alcohol (nine years in the substance misuse field from 1993-2002) and addictive behaviours.

Since 2000, much of my focus has been organisational work, providing workplace counselling, mediation and management support in sectors such as finance, charity, healthcare, retail and hospitality, mostly in London and the South East.

I provided regular support for HMP staff working with sex offenders for over five years and facilitated specialised support groups for those in criminal justice roles exposing them to distressing material and images.

I have attended more than 140 critical incidents, supporting managers and staff after traumatic events such as assaults, accidents, railway fatalities, suicides and the London terrorist attacks.

Currently most of my work is individual counselling and therapy.

Practice description

I have a comfortable, professional, home-based practice with a generous-sized therapy room, which is the first room immediately inside the front entrance.

Please see my website for a photograph of the therapy room.

My first session

The first session is generally exploratory, for us to meet, talk about the possible focus of your sessions and an opportunity for you to ask any questions that you might have.

It is important that you feel at ease with your counsellor and they are a 'good fit' for you so I am happy for you to reflect on this after the first session before committing to further sessions.

As sessions evolve, different issues might emerge and interlink so we can discuss whether the focus might change as we progress. I work flexibly and organically, with the most important factor being that sessions are helpful to you.

There might be times when the sessions are challenging but I am fully committed to supporting you throughout the process and towards your goals.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced Senior Accredited BACP counsellor, having worked full time for 24 years in the counselling field, in the NHS, non-statutory and private sectors. I currently offer supervision via telephone or video. I have had a busy private practice in East Dulwich since 2004.

I now work generically but particular areas of expertise include bereavement, loss, trauma, time-limited work and problems with drugs or alcohol (nine years in the substance misuse field from 1993). From 2000, I  focused on organisational work including workplace counselling, mediation, management support and training in organisations ranging from finance, healthcare, retail, hospitality and the public sectors, mostly in London and the South East.

I provided regular support for HMP staff working with sex offenders for over five years and facilitated specialised support groups for individuals working in criminal justice roles that exposed them to potentially distressing or disturbing material and images.

I have attended more than 140 critical incidents, supporting managers and staff after traumatic workplace events including assaults, accidents, railway fatalities, suicides and the London terrorist attacks.

My supervision training was with the Metanoia Institute. My therapeutic approach is integrative, underpinned by a humanistic philosophy that assumes the capacity of each individual to shape their own life. I draw from person-centred, existential and cognitive-behavioural therapies.

If you are looking for a supervisor, please feel free to get in touch for an informal discussion.
