About me and my therapy practice

Sometimes our potential for happiness becomes blocked and our growth frustrated for reasons that may not be immediately clear. At this point we might seek the help of counselling and psychotherapy. I bring a warm, supportive presence to my therapy practice and have experience with a number of issues, including depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties and life stage issues.

Having trained in Psychosynthesis counselling and psychotherapy, I work from a humanistic and transpersonal perspective. I see each individual as unique and in possession their own innate wisdom and as making an invaluable contribution to life and the world .

As a therapist my role is to listen to and be curious about your story and situation, reflecting it back to you so you can hear it clearly and come to a deeper level of understanding and self-acceptance.  This in turn can help clarify where you may be stuck, allowing you the possibility of addressing difficulties and making decisions.

I work with adults and young people from the age of sixteen and am based in central Bath and Odd Down for face to face work. I also see people online.

Practice description

Some people, coming with a single, specific issue, are able to find resolution in a brief period of therapy, of between six and twenty sessions. However, in my experience most issues require longer in order for change to be effected. That change usually takes the form of a shift in how we relate to ourselves, and then in how we relate to others. Our lives and histories are often complex and change is not always easy, so I find I see most people for between one and four years.

This allows time for trust to develop between us and for patterns to emerge into awareness that may not have been immediately apparent. The process usually requires feelings to emerge and be experienced that have hitherto been suppressed. They and the situations they relate to, can then be released and moved on from.  This can be painful and it can sometimes feel the process is making us feel worse than when we started. However, given a commitment to change, we can move through these periods and into a place of greater ease with ourselves and our lives.

We meet weekly as I find that provides sufficient regularity and consistency to support the process of change.

My first session

The first session is an 'initial session', meaning it is an opportunity for us to meet and get a sense of whether our working together will be of benefit to you.  It gives you a flavour of how I work and if you feel that will suit you. You may feel you want to continue at the end of the first session or you may wish to go away and think about it.

During the first session I will take down some personal details and ask a few questions about your history. The bulk of the session will be space for you to talk about what is bringing you to therapy.  Before the session ends, there will be time for you to ask me any questions you may have, about me, or about therapy, and for us to look through my contract together.

Like subsequent sessions, the first session costs £60 and lasts for fifty minutes. It must be paid for in advance and at the full fee. If you need to request a concession in order to help afford the cost of therapy, we can discuss that during the first session.
