About me and my therapy practice

I have 16 years experience dealing with anxiety, depression, childhood trauma/difficulties, relationships, bereavement and loss, life changes, transgender. I have an Integrative/psychodynamic approach to therapy combined with the latest neuroscience. Today we understand which parts of the brain are responsible for our difficulties and what to do in order to improve/make changes that improve our lives.

I qualified as an Integrative therapist in 2007, this provides the ability to bring together different models and theories, creating a  bespoke therapeutic plan for individual clients.

Over the years I have found my level 4 diploma merely a platform onto which I continuously integrate and tweak methods/models to enhance my practice. Neuroscience has had a tremendous impact on therapeutic arena over the last couple of decades. This mind-blowing research has provided myself and clients with greater understanding of the human mind, body connections, what is responsible for our distress along with how and what to change for positive results.

Along with the more frequent requests for therapy, such as anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, I have a particular interest in PTSD and Complex Trauma Cptsd, (repeated, negative childhood experiences over developmental years). I hold current certifications in this subject as well as anxiety. I also have sufficient training in EMDR for trauma. In the mix I use CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), DBT (dialectical behavioural therapy), NLP (neuro linguistic programming), Parts therapy, REBT (rational emotive behavioural therapy), PCT (person centred therapy), Relational approaches, Memory Reconsolidation, Mindfulness, Polyvagal Theory and Hypnotherapy.

I have worked with Eric Clapton's rehab, Crossroads, in Antigua, produced a BBC documentary with Calum Best, took part in Radio 1 Sunday Surgery evening show with Kelly Osborne, and written many articles for magazines.

Practice description

I am fortunate to have my own therapy room in a quiet part of the house and feel it's important to have a safe, relaxed space to be in. I use Ekornes leather recliner chairs so you can adjust your seating position for ultimate comfort. There is a toilet next door if needed. Confidentiality is paramount, what you say stays in the room, there is no one either side of the therapy room so we won't be overheard. I adopt a more relaxed approach to my work, we are equals, I won't give you any advice or tell you what you should do. Together we create a collaborative relationship in which to bring the results you need.

There may be times when I may say something you do not agree with or feel I've got it wrong. Please tell me if this happens, I encourage you to highlight anything you are not comfortable with.

I understand that you may feel very distressed at times and alone, I would like you to know I will be with you every step of the way, that I will stick with you through thick and thin. Of course I will never know exactly how you feel but I hope to come alongside you so to experience what I can.
