About me and my therapy practice

Do you feel like a pressure cooker ready to explode? Do you feel lost and that every way you turn issues arise? Are you getting angry at people for no reason? Or feeling so down and desperate you don’t know which way to turn?

Looking for the right counsellor can be a bit of a mine field, so if you are reading this then you are one important step closer to beginning your counselling journey with me. I offer the first session at £30 because I encourage you to look at other therapists to make the best decision, after all, you are investing in yourself so it should be the best.

Fully registered with the BACP, I offer Person-centred counselling in a safe environment whether that is face to face, online or over the telephone. I have experience working with a range of issues such as bereavement, anxiety, depression, drug and alcohol issues, relationship issues and working with men to explore their emotions. I have worked with many ethnicities, genders and religions with clients of varying ages. I have previously worked for The Samaritans as well as Health Society at The University of Salford.

I have a small practice based in Reddish, Stockport. It is easily accessible via car (A6/Reddish Road or Junctions 27 & 1 of the M60) and bus (From Stockport or Manchester 192, 203, 42A and 7 pass close by) from most places around Greater Manchester.

As a Person-centred counsellor I believe that ultimately you hold the answers to your struggles and that you have the power to change the way you look at, experience and deal with these issues. You are the only person who knows what is best and truly understands what you need and where you are right now. Together we can explore what you feel you need and how you can make changes and move forward in order to build the life you want and deserve, and most importantly be happy.

Practice description

It can be overwhelming sometimes even thinking about asking for help when as a culture we are supposed to be able to cope with everyday pressures. Life changing experiences and challenges such as loss, trauma or redundancy can cause unbelievable stresses on an already stressful life. It is all to easy to become stuck in a rut or to begin to struggle with daily life with all the competing pressures we face. Sometimes we can’t see the wood for the trees and aren’t able to see or explain why things are so difficult. Our thoughts and feelings can become confusing, leading to experiencing deeper feelings of despair, anger and even depression and ultimately unhealthy coping mechanisms.

It is common for people to disregard these feelings and bury them or put them in a box never to be opened again or dealt with until they begin to force their way out and into everyday life. Having been a client before becoming a counsellor I have some understanding of how dark some of these places can be which led me into this role of counsellor.

Talking about these issues with family members or friends can be difficult at the best of times and we can begin to feel alone, isolated, anxious, depressed, lost or suicidal. It is at this point that you need the stability, kindness, compassion that a qualified counsellor can offer. Most importantly, someone who will listen and hear what you have to say. Fully confidential, I can support you in a safe, non-judgemental, and understanding environment. Working together to find the best solution that works for you will be paramount in working through the difficulties you bring.

Allowing us to work together with respect, trust, compassion and kindness we can navigate the path through the difficulties you face, recognising and understanding the feelings causing you pain and figuring out what changes can be made for you to enjoy the life you want in a happier more positive way.

My first session

Our first session together would be a full 60 minutes at the cost of £30. I feel this gives us an opportunity for me to get an idea of the issues you want to work on and for you to see if you like me and the way I work. From this we can decide how many sessions initially to contract for and begin from the next session.

We would also look through and discuss the counsellor/client contract during that first session so we both know what is expected.
