About me and my therapy practice
I offer a free, fifteen minute telephone or televideo consultation so that you can explain what you are hoping to get out of your counselling sessions and ask me any questions too. This initial contact will help you decide if I am the right therapist to work with you.
I believe in working in an holistic way, viewing you as a whole person, with interests, experiences and expertise that you will bring to your sessions. Experience has taught me that being with a person, in their moments of sadness, confusion, despair or depression can support a person to move to a place of feeling calmer, happier and more contented.
I aim to be with you, in whatever emotions you are experiencing; providing a warm, supportive rapport which will enable you to feel comfortable to share your thoughts and feelings about whatever is causing you distress.
I am also able to suggest interventions and wellbeing strategies, to bring about lasting change.
I am mindful of the fact that many people are incredibly busy and fitting their sessions in between work, childcare, caring and other commitments. I offer clients the option of distraction activities at the end of sessions so that they can transition back into their every day lives a little more easily. This can be particularly useful when having your sessions online or by phone.
All sessions are currently online or by telephone. I am monitoring the safety of returning to face-to-face work and I hope to return to this, when it is safe to do so.
I am specialised in working with bereavement and loss; this loss might stem from a recent bereavement, relationship break up, redundancy, retirement or diagnosis of a life changing health condition. However, many people seek counselling for bereavement years later, when they start to realise that they are still troubled by the complex and overwhelming nature of grief.
I am also specialised in working with young people experiencing academic distress. I have a background in teaching and I bring my extensive experience of working with young people to my work, providing clients with the expertise to work on the aftermath of being bullied, exam stress, peer group pressure, the anxiety of starting or leaving university, the overwhelm of study or the confusion of graduating and embarking on a new career.
My first session
Your first session will take the form of an Initial Assessment. This will provide us both with a framework from which to work from, in order to enable you to access the therapy which is right for you.
After your Initial Assessment session, you will be supported to talk through what has bought you for counselling. You will be encouraged to share your feelings through a warm, empathic approach which values your self-knowledge and offers you the space, respect and non-judgemental environment in which to talk, process and leave behind troubling emotions.
If appropriate, wellbeing strategies and counselling interventions will be discussed for future sessions, in order to facilitate lasting change.
