About me and my therapy practice

I am an integrative and creative counsellor.

I have a great deal of expertise and experience in Anxiety and Panic Attacks and low Self Esteem. In addition, I also specialise in working with grief that involves and the loss of a person after a chronic illness (Anticipatory grief) and also Ambiguous Loss (where a person is still living but lost to you in a psychological way eg personality change, memory loss, dementia or mental illness).

I am also experienced in high functioning anxiety and depression where emotional neglect was a feature during childhood.

Sometimes it can feel as if anxiety has overtaken our lives, and we may need extra help to cope. There is nothing wrong in seeking help.

The stress response is there to protect you but sometimes it is activated without any real physical danger being present and causes us to suffer anxiety symptoms that can be unpleasant.

I can help you to understand why you may be anxious, what is happening to you during a panic attack, and, most importantly, what you can do to reduce them.

When we lose something, a person, pet, or a relationship, we can be left with many different feelings, not just sadness. This can be especially difficult if we could not physically say goodbye, we were estranged at the time, or we had already 'lost' the person before they died eg through dementia. Talking about your loss can be the first step to understanding how you feel, so you can begin to process your feelings.

Childhood emotional neglect involves the lack of the necessary conditions we need in order to thrive as adults. It can pre-dispose us to anxiety and chronic low mood. Counselling, and especially inner child work, helps to replace those things we missed.

Practice description

I offer warmth, sincerity and I will assist you in gaining insight into your thoughts and feelings, without fear of judgement.

The therapy I offer is informed by my counselling training which was person-centred and also  other approaches, eg Transactional Analysis, Polyvagal Theory, Cognitive behavioural theory and Creative counselling. The counselling you will receive is tailored to you, your personality and your issue or issues.

My first session

What happens next?

After you have contacted me (by email, text or phonecall-whichever you prefer), I will offer you a free 15 minute phone-call to give you the opportunity to get to know me and this also gives you a chance to ask me any questions you may have.

After this, you are free to book a session if you wish or, if you have contacted other counsellors, you may wish to come back to me later.

Once you have booked in, there will be a couple of forms to sign prior to the session. Each of the sessions with me lasts a full hour.
