About me and my therapy practice

Counselling can be a space for you to have a closer look at and to explore what matters to you, in the ways and at the pace that works for you, accompanied in that exploration by someone who you trust.
It might be a little like hearing or even observing your thoughts, experiences and feelings, understood deeply and reflected back to you by your counsellor.
This can help to give you some perspective, something that can be difficult when you’re in the midst of living your life or when things are feeling more and more pressured and suffocating.
My therapeutic approach is person-centred and experiential. In our work together, I will try to understand what it feels like to be you - with your unique feelings, your hopes and pain, your disappointments, regrets and joys, and I will be communicating that understanding back to you as best I can, without judgement.
I trust that you know more about what it means and feels like to be you than I or anyone else can and also, that it is you who can best know what directions and decisions to take that will be most satisfying for you, both in our therapy together and in your day to day beyond our sessions. I will be your companion in this process.
It is so important to find a therapist who you feel you can trust and with whom you feel you can do the work that has brought you here. This is going to be a relationship and it is a good idea to find someone who seems like they could be a good fit.
I offer therapy online or by telephone. We will talk about how this might work in our initial session. I am open to seeing clients based anywhere in the UK and can offer both short and longer-term work.
As a person-centred counsellor, I work with you and what you bring to the session and am guided by you in terms of how each session goes and the pace we move at.
My approach to counselling is also trauma-informed and feminist.
I have worked with clients bringing a range of life experiences to our sessions together and have particular interest and experience in working with women affected by gender-based violence and abuse, people questioning their identity and people with the experience of living with long-term medical conditions, including acquired communication difficulties and their effects on the individual and their significant others.
I have an MA in Person-centred counselling and psychotherapy from the University of Nottingham and worked for several years as a Speech and Language Therapist with adults.
My first session
I offer an initial no-obligation free 45 minute session. In this time, we can talk a little about why you are coming to therapy now, about the way I work and if this might fit with what you're looking for and we could look at practical arrangements, if you decided you wanted to continue working together.
After you first make contact, I will email you details of my practice and you can then decide if you would like to book an initial session.
