About me and my therapy practice

I have been practising as a counsellor since 2006. I work as a Private Counsellor and Supervisor from my very comfortable counselling room in Stone, Staffordshire (ST15).

I am a qualified Integrative/Person-Centred Counsellor, having completed a Post-Graduate Certificate in Pastoral Counselling (St John's College Nottingham/Nottingham University) and a Diploma in Pastoral Counselling, (Institute of Pastoral Counselling/University of Wales - Lampeter).

Since qualifying I have completed a Couple and Family Counselling Skills course through Glasgow Caledonian University/Institute of Counselling. I have also completed the CPCAB (Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body) Level 5 Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic Skills and Theory. In 2009 I received my Accreditation Status through BACP.

I am also registered with BACP on their Accredited Voluntary register. I ensure that I do Continuing Professional Development every year - I have completed training in Transactional Analysis, Stress Management, Addictions, Critical Incident De-briefing to name but a few.

I am also a qualified and a BACP Senior Accredited Counselling Supervisor, having completed the Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling Supervision at Keele University. I supervise both groups and individuals. In therapy I am happy to work with individuals, and couples.

Practice description

I will work hard to develop an open, honest and trusting counselling relationship with you. I will do my best to provide a safe environment in which you can explore your situation. Together we will look at why you are seeking help and how we can approach your concerns; I will seek to understand how things are for you, and will help you to explore your feelings, fears, anxieties, your wishes and your hopes.

In this way I will try to help you to find a way forward that is right for you, developing understanding, insights, awareness or answers to the issues that you bring. I will accompany you through this process, support you on the way, and respect the decisions and choices you make, without judgement. It will be important that you feel supported and encouraged, and that you are free to express your feelings and work through them. Hopefully in this way we will reach the place where you want to be.

My first session

The first session is an assessment session so we can decide if you will benefit from our working together. In this session I will outline our contract for working and what counselling involves. It is a chance for you to get to know me and to ask any questions about counselling you may have. It is an opportunity for me to take all the relevant information and assess if I will be able to help you. At the end of this session you wil be able to make an informed decision about proceeding with counselling.
